Who Can Use GÉANT?

The GÉANT network provides high-bandwidth data connectivity between the National Research and Education Networks throughout Europe.  Thus, the most immediate "users" of GÉANT are the NRENs connected to GÉANT.

Ultimately, however, all research networks – whether at European, national, regional, local or campus level – are provided for the benefit of the people involved in education.  This means researchers and academics, and the projects in which they participate, in Universities and research institutes.  It also includes staff and students in higher and further education institutes.

The users served by research networking differ to some extent from one country to another. However, in many countries they also include schools, their staff and pupils, libraries and librarians, and a variety of other users associated to education. Many countries’ research networks also provide networking services to government ministries and other public bodies.
