Best Effort

The Best Effort (BE) service is the basic IP service available in the GÉANT network. Under this service, the network will make its best attempt to deliver packets to their destination. However, no special resources or priority are allocated to any packets and no guarantees are given. The service is very much reliant on routing stability, network load and network availability.

Best Effort delivery is simple and scalable, and is a cornerstone principle that has enabled the expansion of the Internet to the far reaches of the world.

Requesting Best Effort

Since Best Effort is one of the basic services on the GÉANT network, it does not need to be specifically requested. You simply need to be subscribed to GÉANT.
